Hootsuite is a social media tool that lets you manage several accounts right from their website or app. Hootsuite can connect with many different social networks as well and includes apps that will let you get updates from other sites and services. Hootsuite has many helpful features including scheduling a post, RSS feeds, and post analytics.
Hootsuite is not for everyone, if you are only active in one Social network or are not very active at all in any Social network then you will not get anything by using Hootsuite. But if you are like me who is active in almost all popular Social networks and have a hard time checking and updating each of them individually then Hootsuite can help. Hootsuite works with many different Social networks including; Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Foursquare, WordPress, MySpace, and Mixi.
Hootsuite is used a lot by businesses because of the ability to schedule when your message is posted to different Social networks. Hootsuite also allows you to automatically post to social network when a new post is written. Hootsuite has two plan options a free plan in which you can use up to 5 Social networks, 2 RSS feeds, and the app directory. With the paid plan for $10 a month you can use more Social networks and all the features Hootsuite offers.
Once you setup your social network accounts each one will be on a separate tab which makes it easy to switch between networks as well as seeing which network you are on. The next thing to do when setting up your Hootsuite is to install any additional apps you want into Hootsuite. These apps can be YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr, or StumbleUpon. Once you install the apps you want Hootsuite will add these to your dashboard on separate tabs and then you connect Hootsuite to these services to get your content in Hootsuite and share content from Hootsuite to your account.
Now your Hootsuite account is all setup and you can view you Social networks right from one spot. When you want to write a message to your Social networks you can choose to schedule when the message will be sent and add Files, or Links and set your privacy options and location. Once you choose your message settings you can then pick which networks you want the message to go to.
You can also add RSS Feeds to your Hootsuite account. If you want to post to your Social Networks whenever a new feed is sent out either from your own blog or website or a website you follow you can setup ATOM/RSS feeds in your account settings to automatically post to your accounts. Some people believe this is not a good practice to use if you are running a web site because the analytics do not help you SEO and you may turn off potential followers and readers by posting the same update of each Social network so if you are thinking about this you may want to try small and see how you like using it. To set up a feed go to Settings -> RSS/ATOM Feeds then click the plus and fill out the form.
Now that you know how to use Hootsuite you should go sign up and try it for yourself. I find it a great service to access all of my Social networks and send out messages to them. If you are having problems using Hootsuite there is a very helpful support community that can help. If you don’t want to just use Hootsuite on the web you can download the mobile app and do everything from there on the go. For more information check the links below.
